QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Missouri teacher or substitute certificate issued through DESE
  2. Preferred previous coaching experience in assigned sport
  3. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  4. Strong motivational skills.
  5. Evidence of ability to interact positively with student-athletes and colleagues.
  6. Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

The athletic director who provides overall objectives and final evaluations in conjunction with the building administrator.

JOB GOAL:

To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

 

 

General Job Description: Linn High School is seeking an energetic, student-centered head coach to lead our scholar bowl program. The coach must demonstrate leadership skills, integrity, and character development. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills. They must also demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the skills and strategies of scholar bowl as it pertains to interscholastic athletics in Missouri.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Implements and complies with the district rules, regulations, and policies of the Board of Education.
  2. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. Communicate appropriately with supervisors, other employees, students, and visitors.
  3. Maintain an acceptable standard of personal appearance.
  4. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  5. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
  6. Inform students of all safety precautions and fundamentals concerning the activity that they will be participating in.
  7. Organizes and supervises a total sports program. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season. 
  8. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the sport.
  9. Instill in students the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship and encourage them to exhibit such sportsmanship in their actions during practices and games. Maintain student discipline and respect for others and property.
  10. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for individual students' breaches of such standards.
  11. Supervise students at practice, at an activity, or during transportation to or from an activity for which the sponsor is assigned. This includes waiting at the school until all students have been picked up after an activity.
  12. Works closely with the athletic director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
  13. Schedule all activities, fundraisers, contests, trips, practices, etc., with the AD before engaging or telling students or parents.
  14. Care for all equipment and/or materials, making sure that each is properly stored after practices and/or games.
  15. Maintain an inventory of all equipment and/or materials that are used with their activity and submit this inventory to the Activities Director (AD) at the end of the school year. 
  16. Make recommendations to the AD on the budget for purchases and anticipated expenditures of equipment or other materials that might be needed for their activity.
  17. Submit all required reports, such as eligibility, insurance, physicals, trip requests, rosters, state contests, articles, etc., to the AD in a timely manner. Ensure that all students have valid medical examinations and other required qualifications before they are allowed to practice.
  18. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  19. Secure the building/facility and turn off lights if the last person to leave the school grounds after an activity or practice.
  20. Assume responsibility for other tasks and duties as required or assigned by a supervisor.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Emphasize the importance of academic excellence and assist in monitoring and maintaining high academic standards for members of the Scholar Bowl program.
  2. Promote the program within the school and community.
  3. Recommend to the athletic director those students who qualify for a varsity letter certificate.
  4. Establishes standards of conduct and administers them in a fair, equitable and consistent manner.
  5. Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  6. Is available and meets with student-athletes and parents as needed.
  7. Preparation of members and program for the MS Conference Tournament.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
